Two Questions:
To Dr. Holladay: What do you consider most important in taking care of cancer patients?
“It is impossible for me to treat patients effectively without knowing something about them that helps me understand their own personal journeys. I want to know their stories. Cancer is not just a disease that can be seen on a scan. It adds fear and uncertainty to one’s life. I try to learn everything there is to know about treating disease. Beyond that, I have to know my patients, what is important to them, and how they are living day to day with the fears that always accompany a cancer diagnosis. I know that my ability to offer the greatest possibility of cure is attached to my understanding something about their spirits as well as the biology of their disease. I feel privileged to be able to be a part of my patients’ lives and to work with them for the best possible outcome.”
To Joanne Chambers, Breast Cancer Survivor: What did you find most important in the way you were cared for by Dr. Holladay?
“When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I decided I was not going to investigate every aspect of the disease or spend lengthy periods of time researching the Internet. I decided to choose the very best physicians available and trust them to take care of me. I have a business and through the years I have been able to get to know a lot of doctors very well.
“Dr. Holladay was phenomenal. I totally trusted him. I knew that he really cared about his patients. He showed me so much consideration and kindness that I simply fell in love with him. He took the time to explain everything to me. I never had any unanswered questions or worries during my entire treatment.
