Two Questions:
To Dr. Hargreaves: As part of the cancer treatment team, how do you see your role in making certain that our patients have the best care possible?
“Our major responsibility is to make absolutely certain that the diagnosis of cancer is correct to the ultimate degree and that all ancillary studies are accurately performed. We want to make sure that the clinicians have what they need to appropriately treat their patients. It is critical that we keep up-to-date and ahead of where the next test might lead. We have to be open to constant change. We must have a superior pathology team that works together and brings expertise from many different experiences and knowledge banks to provide the most accurate diagnosis for each patient. I have worked at large academic institutions. The cases we see at DeKalb Medical are complex and the clinicians are much more focused on each patient’s case. The concept of the team working together is far more visible than at most academic institutions. Our clinicians are deeply focused on the patients they treat and it is a privilege to a part of such an extraordinary team and to feel like we are all committed to giving each patient the best possible outcome.”
Dr. Quinones, Oncologic Surgeon: What do you think about the contribution to patient care made by DeKalb Medical’s Department of Pathology?
“Dr. Hargreaves and our pathology department are first rate. The quality of their work is absolutely extraordinary. They are exceptionally responsive. They don’t hesitate to get a second opinion from other institutions if they have any questions, not because they are indecisive but because they want to make absolutely certain that our diagnoses are flawless. I have practiced at some outstanding institutions but not one of them was any better than the Pathology Department at DeKalb Medical. They set the bar at its highest point and they respond immediately, whenever and wherever their expertise is needed.” |
