DeKalb Medical understands that a cure is most likely when cancer is diagnosed early. Therefore, we have regular screenings for breast, prostate and skin cancers. We also offer screening opportunities for any problems related to unusual bleeding, digestive disorders and potential lung disease.
Comprehensive Breast Center
Breast Cancer is the leading cause of cancer among women. DeKalb Medical has developed a program which saves lives and gives hope to breast cancer patients.
The program begins with screening. A cancer that can not be felt may still be seen on mammograpy. Any women can call or walk into this center and obtain a mammogram and a referral to a breast specialist for evaluation and examination. Because of the sophisticated screening techniques and state of the art technology, DeKalb Medical is diagnosing cancer at its earliest, most curable stage. This program is one of the few fully accredited by the American College of Radiology and DeKalb Medical employs only American Registered Radiologic Technologists. We believe that quality of care must be uncompromising and we take pride in offering the best breast screenings available anywhere.
Breast problems do develop. Women are encouraged to perform regular breast self examination. If a woman wakes up and discovers a lump or any other irregularity in her breast, DeKalb Medical will get the problem diagnosed immediately. A patient can call us, talk to one of the specially trained nurses, and come in immediately. A mammogram will be taken and read by a radiologist, and the patient will be seen by a breast specialist, all before she leaves the facility. No longer does a woman have to wait for days and make trips to numerous offices and specialists before she can experience peace of mind. This is a patient oriented facility and our goal is to provide patients with relief from their uncertainty and fear before the sun goes down.
Should cancer be diagnosed, the breast specialists at DeKalb Medical offer the most innovative treatment options available anywhere. In early disease, a woman's breast may be saved by surgery limited to removing the diseased tissue. If removal of the breast is necessary, plastic surgeons offer a wide range of breast reconstruction options. Such reconstruction may be performed at the time of surgery or postponed until a later time. These specialists offer state-of-the-art treatment even when cancer is diagnosed in later stages. There are a wide range of chemotherapy options which may be as simple as a daily hormone pill or as complex as high dose therapy combined with transplantation.
