 Members of the Pike family have relied upon DeKalb Medical for many years. “It seems like everyone in my family has been through DeKalb Medical at one time or another,” says William “Pete” Pike, founder of Pike Family Nurseries. “My mother and father received treatment there and my grandchildren were born there…DeKalb Medical has been very good to my family,” he says.
Pete and his wife, Jerri, support the DeKalb Medical Foundation through gifts such as their donation to rebuild the chapel at DeKalb Medical at Hillandale.
“My success has been a blessing,” says Pike. “Rebuilding the chapel is a way to share that blessing with others.”
Pete and Jerri opened their first nursery in 1958. Headquartered in Norcross, the business grew from a single family-run garden center in Marietta to the largest lawn and garden center chain in the southeast. The Pike family sold the majority of the business in 2004.
Throughout his years growing the nursery business, Pike emphasized philanthropy and community support through the business. The garden center chain was well known for supporting events that raised funds for local healthcare and community organizations.
“We believe strongly in taking what we’ve been given and putting it back into the community,” says Pike.
