DeKalb Medical Foundation Donor Profiles: Christmans

Neil adn Jackie ChristmanHis first gift to the DeKalb Medical Foundation was made in 2007 and according to Neil and Jackie Christman the decision to make a significant gift came about because “the timing was right.”

Neil Christman operated car dealerships in Decatur from 1965 to 2003. He founded Chris Motors BMW on Church Street in Decatur in 1965. After years of success in Decatur, he became owner of Chris Volvo in Marietta and co-owner of Northpoint Volvo in Alpharetta. He sold his businesses in 2003.

In 2007 he was looking for a way to give back to the city that made his business successful. A DeKalb Medical Foundation volunteer, who was a long-time friend, approached him to ask for a charitable gift. “I guess she contacted the right person,” he says.

The Christmans’ initial gift supported Wellness on Wheels, DeKalb Medical’s mobile health clinic, and the Physicians' Care Clinic, a volunteer organization of local physicians and nurses who serve more than 1,500 uninsured and underinsured patients each year.

Since the initial gift, the Christmans have made additional special gifts to continue the support of these programs.

The Christmans believe that “giving back is not only the privilege of any successful person, but also a responsibility.”
