 Tim Bendin did not know much about the DeKalb Medical Foundation when he first started working with DeKalb Medical as an attorney with Hall, Booth, Smith & Slover. Today, Bendin not only serves as an attorney for the hospital, but he has also become a real partner with the Foundation. “I came to Atlanta in 1987 and learned about the Foundation as I worked more with DeKalb Medical,” he explains.
Tim and his wife, Cathy, support the Foundation with both donations and time. “It makes sense to give back to the community,” he says. The innovative programs supported by the Foundation and the efficient use of monies raised to support the cause, not the fundraising efforts, are reasons the Bendins are new members of the Founders’ Circle. Tim has been a long-time advocate within his law firm for the firm’s corporate support of the Foundation. Tim’s law firm has been an active supporter of both Nightingala and the Charles B. Eberhart Memorial Golf Classic since 2001.
When their children were younger, Cathy spent most of her volunteer time at the school and with her children’s activities. Today, with all three children in college or on their own, she has more time to give to the Foundation. Cathy is serving as chair of the 2010 Nightingala. This is her third year with the event, serving first as chair of the silent auction, then vice-chair of the 2009 event. The 2010 Nightingala will be held in March, but Cathy’s committee started working on the event in October. “It’s a big job, but I enjoy what I do to help make the event a success, and I believe that all of the volunteers involved in Nightingala are providing a service for the community.” |
